How to register a death
Registering a death is a requirement for all repatriations. In these circumstances, the Next of Kin would usually appoint an international undertaker to act for them. A local undertaker will be appointed. He will carry out all necessary formalities, including registering the death with the local authorities. Depending on where the death occurred, the local death certificate should be presented to the British Embassy at Cairo or the British Consulate General at Alexandria. A British style death certificate will be issued accordingly. Please see the consular fee table for the current fees.
If the Next of Kin prefers a local burial, they should contact the British Embassy at Cairo or the British Consulate General in Alexandria. It is often necessary for us to issue a certificate of no objection to the burial. The Next of Kin may wish to formally register the death with us. To do so, the local death certificate, a translation and the British passport should be submitted. The current fees can be found on the consular fee table.
