Reverse charge calls to the UK 

Collect (reverse charge) calls can be made by dialling 146 on any telephone in Cairo and asking the operator to connect with the UK number required.

Other large hotels have international telephone lines from which reverse charge calls can be made.

Obtaining emergency funds from the UK

Western Union: Western Union Money Transfer provides a rapid money transfer service at many of Western Union offices all over the world (not only UK). A proportionate charge is payable upon transfer. A full schedule of rates is available at www.westernunion.com

ATM facilities

ATM facilities are now available throughout Egypt. Most of the 5 star hotels have the facilities in their foyers. The nearest hotels with ATM machines to the Embassy are located  at the Semiramis Intercontinental Hotel, and the Nile Hilton Hotel. The ATM accepts the following networks: Visa, Cirrus, Diner’s Club, Plus, 123 (local network), MasterCard, Electron.

Obtaining airline tickets from UK

A deposit to pay the airline can be lodged in UK at a travel agent or airline office. They, will then send a pre-paid ticket (PTA) to British Airways or other airline office. Be sure to get full details of the local office the PTA is being sent to and the reference number.
