Applying for a UK passport in Egypt
SYSTEM UPGRADE
Our passport issuing system will be upgraded during the second week of November, which may result in possible delays to our production. We suggest that you check the validity of your passport, and recommend that all urgent applications be submitted at the beginning of October. We apologise for the inconvenience. Your co-operation will be much appreciated
Where to apply?
The Passports Sections of the British Embassy in Cairo & the British Consulate General in Alexandria offer a full passport issuing service. We are able to issue full British Biometric passports, within ten working days of submitting all the required documents.

What to submit?
Applications for adults (16 years & over)
Documents required
If you were Born before 1 January 1983 in the UK
• The passport application form C1 passport forms
• Your current British passport
• Two recent passport size photographs (head and shoulders).
Please note photographs generated by computer are not acceptable.

If you were born after 1 January 1983 in the UK you must also provide:
• Your full (long) version birth certificate and
• Your British Parent’s full (long) birth certificate
• Parents marriage certificate (if required)
• Your British Parent’s Naturalisation certificate, if applicable
If you were Born outside the UK you must also provide:
• Your British Parent’s full (long) birth certificate or
• Your Naturalisation certificate (whichever is applicable).
• Parents marriage certificate (if required)
• Your local birth certificate with an English translation, if applicable
• Your Egyptian passport or ID card, if applicable.
All documents must be originals
Fees must be paid in cash & in local currency
Applications for children (under 16 years)
Documents required
• The passport application form C2 passport forms
• The child’s current passport (where applicable)
• 2 recent passport size photographs
• The child’s full (long) version British birth certificate or consular birth registration certificate or local birth certificate with an English translation or a Home Office registration certificate whichever is applicable
• The full (long) version British birth certificate or naturalisation certificate of the British parent(s)
• Parent’s marriage certificate (where applicable)
• Passports of both parents
All documents must be originals
Fees must be paid in cash & in local currency
All non-English documents must be translated into English by one of our approved translators.
In cases where the parent’s marriage has ended, we may need to see the divorce certificate.
If there are formal custody papers, these must be submitted.
If the parents are separated or divorced, but there are no formal custody papers, we may need the parent to sign additional declarations or refer the application to London.
In certain cases we may need to ask for additional documentation from the time of your birth. Following are examples of these documents:
National Health Card
School Reports
Photographs
Baby Book
Egyptian school reports covering as many years of your education as possible.
Two photographs, one signed by person who countersigns your application form. The counter signatory must NOT be related to you in any way, and must have known you for the length of time you have been in Egypt.
Parents' passports at the time of birth
Parents' Vaccination/Immunisation certificates issued in the UK.
Parents' National Health Service Medical Cards.
Parents' Rent books at the time of birth.
Parents' Bank statements at the time of birth
Letters from parents, employers/colleagues showing residence in UK at time of birth.
Any other UK documents at the time of birth.
This list is not comprehensive. You may be asked to bring other evidence particular to your case. Production of the above documents does not guarantee that a passport will be issued. But in many cases it will not be essential to provide all of these documents either. If in doubt, please contact the Consular Section for help.
You, and other persons connected with you, may be invited to an interview with the Consular Officer before a decision is made.
All documents must be originals.
We offer a formal collection service at the consular section reception. When you receive your official receipt, you will also receive a slip indicating when your documents will be ready for collection.

Public counter opening hours for the Consular Section are from Sunday to Thursday 09:00 hrs to 13:00 hrs, except embassy holidays. The counter will be open from 13:00 to 14:00 for passport collections only. The Consular Team will be available to answer telephone enquiries from Sunday to Thursday, 09:00hrs to 14:00hrs.
In case of emergencies, such as arrest, serious illness, accident or death outside of working hours please call 002 02 2791 6000 and ask for the duty officer.
