References

Applicants should complete the reference criteria online. In addition applicants must provide two references written in English when requested. Each reference should be a statement or letter written personally by someone who knows the applicant well in a professional or academic capacity. These statements should be written recently, refer to the applicant’s academic, professional and personal achievements and comment on his/her ability to study and live in the UK.

Selection

The scheme is highly competitive and based on merit. Application forms will be screened and successful candidates will be invited to attend an interview at the British Council in Cairo or Alexandria. Final selection will be based on these interviews which will be held in November and December every year. The British Embassy will make the final decision regarding the place of study and the course followed in consultation with the scholar.

Studying in the UK

Applicants can find out about universities and courses of study in the UK at the Information Points in the British Council offices in Agouza, Cairo and Alexandria. More education information for international students can be found and on the Chevening site. Applicants should research the study options available and demonstrate this in the application.

Follow up

The British Council will only contact those applicants whose applications are short-listed for interview in November and December every year. Due to the very large number of applications received, unsuccessful candidates will not be informed automatically. Applicants will receive a reply after the interviews are completed in January every year. Please note that British Council staff can not discuss with applicants the status of any application or give reasons for rejecting an application at any stage.
