Defence
The Defence Section co-ordinates all the military business in which the UK becomes involved in Egypt. This includes training, visits and liasing with Egyptian Ministry of Defence for access to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's cemetrey at moascar.
The bulk of the Defence Section's daily work involves co-coordinating over flights and Suez Canal transits for warships and merchant vessels supporting our Defence interests further East.
Training encompasses courses and exchanges in the UK: joint exercises in Egypt with the Egyptian Armed Forces, training at sea with the Egyptian Navy as well as refuelling exercises between our air forces. Adventurous training, especially diving in the Red Sea, involves hundreds of British servicemen, officer cadets and University OTCs students each year.

The Defence Section assists veterans and others who wish to visit battlefields or graveyards. In all there are 23 sites in Egypt where 52,000 Commonwealth war dead are buried or commemorated. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission is responsible for the maintenance of 17 cemeteries in Egypt, most notably El Alamein where special services are held each October to commemorate the battle.
