Funding opportunities

 

The Embassy funds a number of projects through the Strategic Programme Fund and the Bilateral Programme Budget fund of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Concept bids should be emailed to the British Embassy in Cairo using the forms below.

1) The Strategic Programme Fund (SPF)

What is SPF?

The SPF programme (previously Global Opportunities Fund) started in September 2003 with the aim to support and work with countries to promote peaceful economic, political and social reform.

Most of the projects focus on areas such as civil society, justice reform, education, human rights and media development. The SPF in Egypt supports two particular objectives.


1. 'Reduce the risk from international terrorism, so that people can go about their daily lives freely and with confidence'


2. 'To promote human rights in particular by contributing to progress on strengthening international human rights institutions and instruments, criminal justice, freedom of expression, child rights and abolition of the death penalty'


Examples of SPF supported projects in Egypt 
• Sensitising MPs and Empowering Youth 2007-2009
• Media training on covering elections and objective reporting 2004-2005
• Training Lawyers in Egyptian Governorates on the Principles of Human Rights 2003-2006         
• The Ombudsman Office at the National Council for Women 2003-2006 
           

Procedures for applying  for SPF funds
A concept bid should be submitted to the British Embassy in Cairo using the forms available (DOC, 142KB), and you can read the project bidding guidance (DOC, 70.5KB). If your concept note is selected, you will be invited to fill in a full project bid. This bid will be submitted to Foreign Office in the UK for a board to approve.

2) Bilateral Programme Budget (BPB)

What is BPB?
This is an Embassy fund allocated to carry out projects for implementation throughout Egypt. The fund supports civil society and NGOs working in the field of human rights, good governance, media reform, education and climate change.

• Roundtable discussion in Assuit on local council elections-2008
• Climate Change Media Consultation -2007
• Themed Visit- Understanding Muslims in the UK -2007

Procedure to apply
A concept note with a full budget should be submitted to the British Embassy in Cairo using the forms available (DOC, 142KB). If your concept note is selected you will be invited to fill out a full project bid.
